The Stephensdom - St. Stephan's Cathedral in Vienna

Saint Stephen's Cathedral (Stephansdom) is the leading tourist attraction in Vienna.  This massive cathedral is of visual and historic importance.  Dating from the 12th century, the cathedral was severely damaged  by a fire in the 13th century.  The Stephansdom was also damaged at the end of World War II.  The cathedral houses a variety of art treasures and a breathtaking view of the city that can be seen from the Steffl or North Tower. Saint Stephen's is also noted for its fine set of bells, the largest of which is known as the Pummerin or "boomer".  It is worth the modest fee to take a guided tour of the Cathedral.  The tours, which are offered mid-morning and mid-afternoon, also include a side trip to the catacombs.

Take a carriage ride while in Vienna

The Stephensplatz, the square fronting the Stephendom, is both the geographic and "touristic" center of Vienna.  You might enjoy taking a carriage ride while visiting.

St. Charles Church (Karlskirche) in Vienna

Saint Charles Church (Karlskirche) is another of Vienna's famous cathedrals.  Dedicated to St, Charles Borromeo, it was built by Charles VI, as a pledge made relating to a plague that hit the city in the 18th century.  The building is known for its Baroque architecture and its interior frescos and murals.  The interior of the church is quite stunning and well-worth your time.
