• Luxembourg City

  • The Old Town of Luxembourg City has UNESCO  World Heritage Site status and it is this section of the city provides the attractions of interest to most travelers.  The "Old Fortress". and its casemates. is one of the most interesting parts of the city and should be included on any tour.  Most visitors wander by the modest,Grand-Ducal Palace and take in the Place Guillaume, the city's central square.

• Ardennes

  • The portion of the Ardennes that is in Luxembourg is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful landscape and the attractiveness of towns such as:

    • Clervaux    a market town in medieval times, has an interesting medieval castle and a scenic setting.

    • Vianden is another town with medieval origins, also located in a scenic valley.

    • If you choose to explore the Ardennes, be sure to visit the tiny but beautiful, village of Esch-sur-Sûre , which is nearly surrounded by a tight meander of  the River Sûre. The town, of course, is equipped with the mandatory castle, and is  close to a large reservoir (and water sports area) which supplies drinking water to the rest of Luxembourg

    • Both the Luxembourg and Belgian sections of the Ardennes were pivotal settings in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II.

• Mullerthal

  • Known as "Little Switzerland and considered by many travelers to be the most scenic area of Luxembourg, the Mullerthal is also the vacation destination of choice for the  Luxembourgeois.

  • Although most travelers come to hike and enjoy the area's natural beauty, there are a number of small towns to visit and various festivals to take in during the spring and summer. Visit this site if you are interested in more detail on the Mullerthal.
    

    • Echeternach , the largest town in the area, is the best base for touring "Little Switzerland".  It is a scenic town that is fun to explore, but it offers only a few modestly interesting  attractions.  Finally, during the summer, the town hosts a music festival that has been growing in popularity.

    • Echetenach has been named a European Destination of Excellence by the European Union.
